A Walk on the Night Side with V.L. King's new steamy variation

We all have facets to our personalities. Even good girls—especially us good girls. Inside every wife is a closet vixen, but men are usually just too silly to bring that side out. And some men have a difficult time taking their minds out of the Madonna/Magdalena complex. You know, the subconscious idea that women are either mothers or mistresses. rme.

That's why Pride & Prejudice variation author Violet King, writing as V.L. King for her debut steamy variation novella, struck such a satisfying chord in her title: Darcy's Hidden Desire.

The story starts with Elizabeth typically wondering if she is doing something wrong. Darcy leaves her bed each night, but instead of her being like "Yo, my man, I notice you peace out each night, so what's up?" she internalizes her worry. This is both common and familiar. She wants communication and a deepening of her relationship with her husband, but like most young women new to relationships, she doesn't just ask.

So when her husband seems to abandon all restraint one night in a most uncharacteristic fashion, she is both gratified but secretly. . .perplexed.

I enjoyed this story. The sex served to further the development of the plot and the characters, rather than just being there for the sake of titillation. The prose was flowing and professional and Darcy and Elizabeth were nicely in character. Plus I have never read Darcy in quite this, ahem, state.

This is my first title by this author and I'm pleased to move onto her sweet variations as author Violet King. I also hope she will continue to pen these steamy novellas to offer us a satisfying before bed foray into the martial bliss of our favorite literary couple.

A Longbourn Lady writes sensual Pride & Prejudice variations as Cora Aston. Concerto is her most recent release.

Elizabeth, now a brilliant pianist, unexpectedly encounters Darcy years after rejecting his proposal. This time he refuses to let her go—even if it means using leverage to win her hand.
